・Kyogen, “Kakiyamabushi” (The Persimmon Thief)

・Noh, “Tsuchigumo” (Earth Spider)
A mysterious monk appears before the sick and bedridden Minamoto no Raiko. The monk—the spirit of a monstrous earth spider—spins forth thousands of silken filaments to bind Raiko. Raiko fights back and turns the tables. The spirit disappears. On Raiko’s orders, the warrior Hitorimusha and a group of servants hunt down the spirit, find its dwelling place, and kill it.

The May 4 performance features Kiyokazu Kanze, the 26th-generation head of the Kanze family.
