Nihonga, or Japanese painting, is rooted in traditional techniques and mentality cultivated over a long history. At the same time, it undergoes continual change in the present. This exhibition introduces new possibilities in Nihonga through works that utilize traditional materials and techniques while also incorporating contemporary compositions, usages of empty space and other such approaches. These pieces represent more than a simple preservation of past Nihonga culture; they showcase reinterpretations and evolutions of the art in the here and now.
